Sudatel Telecom Group, together with Djibouti Telecom and Ethio telecom, presented the HORIZON FIBER Initiative to technology companies and industry stakeholders in Addis Ababa on 7 September.

The workshop brought together representatives from Google, Meta (HipConsult), Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Airtel, Bayobab, WIOCC, Nokia, Ciena, center3, Saudi Vision, China Mobile International Limited and BringCom.
Discussions focused on the commercial and technical requirements of the high-capacity terrestrial fibre corridor being developed across Djibouti, Ethiopia and Sudan.
The HORIZON corridor will link Djibouti’s submarine cable landing infrastructure to Sudan through Ethiopia, creating a secure, diversified terrestrial route alongside existing subsea systems. With multi-terabit capacity, low-latency connectivity and built-in redundancy, the Initiative will help meet the region’s growing demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, fintech, e-commerce and digital content delivery.
The workshop marks an important step in engaging customers, technology providers and strategic partners who will benefit from and contribute to the HORIZON Initiative. It also highlights the value of regional collaboration in developing reliable digital infrastructure across Africa.
The HORIZON Fiber Initiative builds on the strategic cooperation between Djibouti Telecom, Ethio telecom, and Sudatel Telecom Group to expand international bandwidth, improve network resilience, and support global digital transformation.
